College of Humanities and Law Holdsa Keynote Lecture for the 2019 freshmen

Combining with the theme education of “RemainTrue to Our Original Aspiration and Keep Our Mission Firmly in Mind”,after the freshmen backbone training conference, thecollege held the 2019 freshman backbone briefing on October 24.

In the first part of the lecture, He Wei,students from theSchoolSpeaking Group explain the deeds of Academician Lu Yonggen to the newstudents. Academician Lu Yonggen is an outstanding member of theCommunist Party of China, the former Presidentof South China Agricultural University, and an academician of theChinese Academy of Sciences. Academician Lu Yonggen has devoted hislife to the genetic breeding and research of rice, and has maderemarkable achievements, which have been highly valued by the ricefarming community at home and abroad. Not only that, Academician Luloved his motherland and people all his life, committed to helpingstudents change their destiny, and donated more than 8.8 million yuanof his life savings to school to set up an education fund, anddonated his body to the country for medical research. AlthoughAcademician Lu is gone, his spirit will always circulate in the heartof SCAUstudents.

Next, student Yeming Ming introducedarelatedtopic of “Youthand Rural Rejuvenation”.Mr. Ye started with a reply from Xi Jinping to the secretary andexpert representatives of agricultural universities and collegesacross the country, and explained the issues concerning agricultureand the development ofrural areas to students from shallow to deep. Studentslearned that the issue of agriculture, rural areas and farmers is thetrinity of industry, residence and subject identity. Looking back atthe moment, everyone realizedthat as a contemporary youth, they can make a lot of contributions torural revitalization.

“Youth, find the originalaspiration”,Zhang Zejin took everyone to review the educational activities of ourschool inheriting the red gene theme that he and the team membersparticipated in. The team of our school went to Nanjing to carry outthe red gene root-seeking journey, passing through Nanjing Museum,Zhongshan Mausoleum, Nanhuatai Martyrs Cemetery, Nanjing MassacreMemorial Hall and other places.All weredeeply moved. Everyone praised the layout of the Republic of Chinabuilding in the Nanjing Museum and sighed for the compatriots whodied in the Holocaust. Although the red root-seeking journey is over,our journey to pursue the red gene never stops.

Next, Zhang Yiqing, the5th “ModelLeading Plan”Party Member Star Nomination Award winner,and Ma Chunyu,the XueganStar Nomination Awardwinner,shared their experienceand thoughtson college life. Both students have won scholarships aswell as provincialand national awards, whichestablish good examplesfor otherstudents.Both ofthememphasized that they must strengthen their beliefs, scheduletheirtime well, fulfill their duties, be determinedandenterprising, and strive to be advanced.

Finally, the class committee organized allof the studentsto watch amovie,called “JianguoDaye”.The moviemainly toldastory of the Kuomintang whichwas stilltrying to use conspiracy to obstruct the convening of the conferencewhen the Chongqing negotiations were held after the end of the war ofresistance. This patriotic theme movie tookstudents to review the great history of the founding of New China andpromote the spirit of patriotism. Itisbelievedthatwhileenjoying today's good life, studentsalsofelt the ever-changing and gradually powerful changes of themotherland. By watching the film, the students' national pride andself-confidence are more inspired.

Through today's preaching and sharing by the speakers,the studentshavebecome more clear about their responsibilities as class cadres andkey freshmen, and they have also felt the spirit of culture passingon from generation to generation. Itis wished thateveryone will go further in future work and study.
